Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Treatment and Hypnotherapy for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

If you're looking for really successful help for I.B.S. then Hypnotherapy could offer you the solution you're looking for.

Hypnotherapy, using tried and tested methods, is widely recognised as a highly effective treatment for I.B.S. It has been used successfully for many years and Hypnotherapy is often successful where other treatments have failed.

I.B.S., or irritable bowel syndrome, can be a distressing and sometimes very debilitating condition. Many sufferers find I.B.S. very restricting and it can certainly dramatically interfere with the quality of our everyday lives and activities.

If you are a sufferer yourself, or you are the partner or parent of an I.B.S. sufferer, then you will know only too well the difficulties that the condition can cause.

Symptoms of I.B.S

Irritable bowel syndrome is a functional disorder of the gut. This means that there is an abnormality in the function of the gut rathher than its structure. I.B.S. is one of the most common problems of the digestive system with something like 1 in 6 people suffering from it at some time in their lives.

I.B.S. tends to start in younger people, most commonly between the ages of 15 and 40. Women tend to be more frequently affected than men. The symptoms often include:

* Abdominal pain, which is often spasmodic in nature

* Bloating

* Diarrhoea

* Constipation

* Rumbling tummy and/or excessive wind

* Extreme feelings of needing to go to the toilet urgently

Causes of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

The exact causes of I.B.S. are unclear and diagnosis can sometimes be extremely difficult. However over activity in the nerves and muscles of the gut are believed to be a factor. Again it is not entirely clear exactly why the over activity occurs but research suggests that Stress may well be a significant factor and it is often diagnosed as being responsible for I.B.S.

Treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

The treatment for I.B.S. depends a lot on the cause. Where Stress is know, or suspected, to be the root cause, as is the case in a substantial number of cases, then therapies such as Hypnotherapy and N.L.P. offer very effective and successful help.

Other causes for I.B.S. may be diet or lifestyle related and therefore it may be necessary to find out what foods you are intolerant to and then reducing or eliminating those foods from your diet.

A food and lifestyle diary, taken over a period of a least 4 weeks, may be a good idea so that you can check your exercise, recreation and your everyday food types and intakes. This gives you the opportunity of seeing if you can make any beneficial changes in those areas.
